Various ventures, projects and obsessions
Meditation lamp for children.
Using an ESP32 with an LED matrix, I built a prototype lamp designed to help young children breathe slowly and relax.
It runs at five breaths per minute, a rate supported by research to calm the mind, and turns off after two minutes.
I aimed to make the light’s motion and rhythm “feel” like breathing; a simple linear fade seemed too mechanical.
My plan is to expand the design so children can choose colours and timing by attaching NFC-tagged “cards” to the device.
Wireless water tank sensor
Keeping track of water levels in agricultural tanks often requires manual inspection, particularly when tanks are located in remote or hard-to-reach areas.
I developed a compact, battery-powered sensor that attaches to the outside of a plastic water tank and alerts the user when the water level is running low.
Using capacitive sensing, the device detects water through the tank wall without requiring any modifications to the tank itself. It communicates via Bluetooth with Home Assistant and achieved approximately three months of battery life during testing.
Testing out different shapes - the idea was first to fit a standard AAA battery inside. Ultimately, I decided on using a more compact, rechargeable LiPo to make the form factor smaller and more discrete.

GAIA Hydroponic system
205-2016
Gaia - another (!) hydroponic system I designed and developed as a consultant for Easy Urban Gardening as a part of a small team.
The system was modular, so that you could stack up to five growing boxes onto the water tank.
“RoToDo” - a rotary todo-list for a very narrow set of common task.
"Oak bottle" - a combination of a bottle and an oak cask. The idea is to let the whiskey mature in the bottle instead of a cask, which will go quicker because of the higher surface to volume ratio.
The oak bottle is composed of laser cut segments of oak held together with aluminum frames. This earlier version of the oak bottle used wooden frames for holding it together - which turned out to be too weak. The charred surfaces that the laser cutting produce are a bonus, since whisky casks actually are charred.
